North Americans To Spend $2.4 Billion On Social Games by 2014
New York, August 30, 2011 – SuperData, a market intelligence provider on online games, today released its latest benchmarking study and a four-year forecast of the North American social game market.
The 20-page report, titled Social Game Market 2011: North America is part of a series focused on social gaming and builds on a data set containing 1,885,227 unique transactions by 231,265 individual users, collected from 20 different social games across 20 different social networking platforms.
SuperData estimates the North American social games market to grow 35% this year, reaching $1.4 billion and projects total consumer spending on social games to total $2.4 billion by 2014.
Findings include demographic data, preferences, and key value metrics on gamers that drive the growth in social games.
“Social gaming has become a mainstream activity,” says Janelle Benjamin, Director of Research at SuperData, “But the immense competition between publishers and platforms demands a better understanding of what drives revenue.” The report analyzes purchase data to allow social game publishers and their investors comparing internal performance against industry aggregates.
“Zynga’s announced IPO is a clear indication that the market for social games is maturing,” according to Benjamin, “This creates an increased need for industry-relevant metrics that go beyond internal analytics.”
